Autumn Sunshine

What a cracking day. I have had a busy day interspersing grass cutting both at home and for a friend with learning stories for the Kingshill House gig.

More pictures from the Scillies below- should of said the bird in yesterday’s blog was a Jack Snipe – you don’t normally get that close to them! Today’s pictures the Skybus we travelled in, also a Pied Flycatcher!

The Dark is Rising

Quote

The title is the Susan Cooper book which I read probably first 35 years ago and it is my choice for this week’s Book Club. I always thought it was one of the best children’s book and was reminded about it when the Guardian highlighted it recently when it was celebrating books for young people. It will be interesting what my fellow Bookies think on Wednesday.

Talking books it is the Cheltenham Literature Festival is currently taking place and we went to an event on Saturday. It was a discussion with Amy Jeffs (I saw her two years ago ) and Nicholas Jubber who recently had a book called The Fairy Tellers published. Both authors had a wide range of knowledge so it was a good listen! We have both been underwhelmed with this year’s programme – hopefully we will find more next year!

A couple of pictures from our visit to the Scillies. More to follow.

Russian Folk Tale

After getting an early morning soaking I told my favourite  Russian Folk Tale today at Wick Court. It never disappoints and I always adjust the Telling!

Working hard on preparing for the 27th October – I am even hoping to add some sound effects but need improve my technological skills!

Birds, Birds and More Birds!!! Also a poster!!!!!!

We are back after thoroughly enjoying out time on the Scillies. We met many people who keep coming back to the Islands year after year and we could see why. It is a well known hot spot for birds on migration and we saw plenty! You might find I will put some pictures in future blogs.

I took some delightful young people from Walsall bird watching yesterday at Wick Court– I am Story Telling for them tomorrow morning.

I watched my football team on Tuesday share 6 goals with the Terriers on Tuesday night. It was a bizarre game because we played really well but our makeshift defence struggled with corners conceding three goals from four goals!

Finally a poster below for my gig on the 27th- I need a crowd so please come along!

Have you guessed yet? The picture below is some odd bloke (look carefully) bird watching on a cricket field My eldest quipped it must be a backward fielding position! I have taken many pictures with my camera but the thrush below was so tame I managed with my phone.

Answer to our location at the bottom.

We are in the beautiful Scillies- back home tomorrow!

Still Away!

HiHave you guessed yet where we are? Another picture below and another clue. Author Michael Murpurgo has based some of his stories in this area. Another clue tomorrow which should give it away.

On the rocks in the picture we saw seals and many sea birds and even a peregrine!
