Being Gramps!!!!

Picture below is me entertaining my three lovely grandchildren. We had a great time and of course I got them as high as kites! Surely that is what Gramps is for!

Met my brother yesterday and went together to see the Mighty Hatters lose yet again on the road at Swansea! Good to spend time together even if we were disappointed by the result.

An amazing number of hits on my website today-thank you!

Boxing Day Blues!!!

A lovely Christmas Day which included us having a cycle ride to the River and of course viewing the new Wallace and Gromit. Yesterday saw me drive down to meet  my eldest son David at the Services where he was being dropped off by his family. We then drove onto to Bristol for football. having worried about  where to park but it being a Bank Holiday the were no parking restrictions so we were able to park for free near the ground and conveniently close to Bristol Beer Factory Tap Room! That is where our luck ended! A poor game saw the Mighty Hatters lose to a single goal.. Still got back in time for my granddaughter’s bath time!

Countdown

We are almost all ready here. We have a quiet Christmas Day with just the two of us. However, Boxing Day  sees our Exeter family arrive (I am meeting them at the services near Bristol to pick up David so we can go on to the football.) and on the 28th we have all of them here including three young grandchildren and the dog! It won’t be quiet!

Christmas Lights!!!!!

A few days ago I checked all our Christmas Lights– they all worked! On Thursday I put up the outdoor lights in our apple tree like I do every year. It means up and down a ladder as I move around putting them up. I went for an artistic look making sure I varied the levels and filled the tree. I was quite smug when I went to switch on- they didn’t work! I fiddled with them- they still didn’t work! Yesterday I checked all connections – THEY STLL DIDNT WORK!!!! Today I took them all down- takes ages! I put up our second set I checked them again and guess what they are working! Not as good but at least we have something.

I was relieved to see the Mighty Hatters win last night- snatching another last gasp winner. Not a great game but the three points matter!

COYH!!!!!

I took a mature decision today and decided not to drive up to watch the Mighty Hatters tonight. (watching on TV instead) All the noise about it being a bad day for traffic influenced my decision. It has been hard this season with so many evening kick offs. I am going to the two away games over Christmas as well as a home game on New Years Day! I am asking Santa for three points tonight as well as some points on the road!

I had another story telling in a care home yesterday. It was second gig within three months at this Cheltenham setting. It is encouraging that I keep being asked back!

Finally managed a good ride today over Frocester Hill!

Christmas Angels Take 347!

I was telling stories today at a care home in Nailsworth. I finished with my own story Christmas Angels which I originally wrote a lifetime ago. I am very fond of it as a story it was originally written as a challenge with friends then developed into a story for telling in school. However it has been performed in the pub and to W.I.s throughout the county. It was ideal for the care home – we all sang “Hark the Herald Angels” as well! Last gig tomorrow in Cheltenham also a care home so I am doing the same three stories I told today – cuts down on preparation time!

Finally I caught a glimpse of a male sparrowhawk flying through the garden yesterday. Thankfully for my small birds in the garden it has been a while since I spotted one in the garden. Picture below of a previous visit!

Punctures and Stuff

We had an exhausting time in Exeter with that bundle of energy our granddaughter Ellen. Today has been catching up but I had a lovely Christmas lunch at Wick Court to thank us for efforts as volunteers.

Found I had a puncture on my workhorse of a bike which has thicker tyres so I had a real  struggle putting the new inner tube in! I was glad it wasn’t by the side of the road that I had to repair it. It took me a while! I am hoping if it is ok to cycle on it to my story telling gig (a care home in Nailsworth).

The picture below should make you smile it is Robin my youngest grandson wearing his brother’s Fat Controller’s  hat.

One piece of good news for us long suffering Hatters. The club have just got final planning approval for a new ground. It will be iconic also it will be in the centre of the Town unlike many new grounds and will incorporate a music venue.

Exeter Away!!!

Very short blog today from Devon. We are down visiting our granddaughter Ellen and tired out from endless games of hide and seek. Not sure she fully comprehends the game. We get told where we have to hide and where she is going to hide!

Yesterday we saw our two grandsons so it has been a tiring couple of days. Owen was 4 last weekend so we were trying out his binoculars!

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

I am sounding like Victor Meldrew today! Just got a parking ticket for being 20 minutes over our time and it is costing us an arm and a leg!!!! The irony is we used that car park because it was supposedly cheaper!!! Steam coming out of my ears especially as we were helping out on the day!

Did a longish cycle today and I am feeling it now. It is really hard to get clothing right at this time of the year. It is cold but you end up getting hot on a long cycle.

Not going up to Blackburn tomorrow for the football felt I have done enough travelling this week. Hoping our form on the road changes! However, they are the form side in the division. COYH!!!!!
